On June 18, 2026, the EUROSTAMP plant in Villers-la-Montagne conducted a large-scale fire emergency exercise in partnership with the Meurthe-et-Moselle Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS 54).
This initiative is part of the risk prevention and management policy led by Mr. Alessandro Salvi, Plant Director of EUROSTAMP, who places employee safety, facility protection, and emergency preparedness among the site's strategic priorities.
The exercise was jointly planned by Lieutenant Deniset of SDIS 54 and Ms. Nency Di Carlo, EUROSTAMP HSE Manager, with the objective of testing, under realistic conditions, the crisis management organization, emergency response coordination, and the effectiveness of procedures for handling a major incident.
A Realistic and Challenging Scenario
The exercise simulated a fire involving a 32-ton forklift truck carrying approximately:
- 600 liters of off-road diesel fuel (GNR);
- 600 liters of hydraulic oil.
The simulated consequences of the incident were particularly severe:
- complete engulfment of the forklift in flames;
- destruction of the maintenance building by fire;
- one severely burned casualty requiring immediate emergency medical treatment;
- two victims in cardiac arrest (CPA), considered deceased within the exercise scenario;
- risk of fire spreading to other industrial facilities on the site.
Thanks to the rapid and well-coordinated intervention of the SDIS 54 emergency teams, combined with the effective cooperation of EUROSTAMP personnel, the exercise successfully demonstrated the collective ability to manage a major emergency and protect the site's critical infrastructure.
A Long-Term Commitment
This exercise is part of EUROSTAMP's ongoing commitment to continuously strengthen its emergency preparedness.
On **April 14, 2026**, a first fire drill had already been conducted on site together with SDIS 54. That scenario simulated the outbreak of a fire in the center of the plant and enabled the teams to test emergency alert procedures, employee evacuation, and the initial coordination with external emergency services.
The "Grand Fire" exercise held on June 18, 2026, therefore represents another important milestone in EUROSTAMP's continuous improvement process, featuring a more complex scenario, greater operational resources, and an even higher level of preparedness.
Exercise Highlights
- More than 40 firefighters mobilized
- More than 10 emergency response vehicles deployed
- One aerial ladder truck in operation
- Operational Command Post (PCO) established on site
- Exercise conducted at the EUROSTAMP plant in Villers-la-Montagne
- Attendance of **Colonel Greff**, Deputy Departmental Director of SDIS 54
- Attendance of **Lieutenant Colonel Juillerat**, Head of Operational Planning and Coordination at SDIS 54
- Strong cooperation between EUROSTAMP and SDIS 54
An Outstanding Partnership
This exercise strengthened the mutual understanding of the site's facilities, validated crisis management procedures, and further reinforced the collaboration between emergency services and the industrial sector.
EUROSTAMP would like to express its sincere gratitude to:
- SDIS 54;
- Colonel Greff;
- Lieutenant Colonel Juillerat;
- Lieutenant Deniset;
- all the officers and firefighters who participated;
- the EUROSTAMP teams;
- and all employees who contributed to the preparation and successful execution of this exercise.
Statement from the Plant Director
"Safety is a fundamental value at EUROSTAMP. Organizing an exercise of this scale together with SDIS 54 enables us to test our emergency response systems under realistic conditions, strengthen our preparedness, and further develop our close cooperation with the fire and rescue services. I would like to sincerely thank all the firefighters, the EUROSTAMP teams, and everyone who contributed to the success of this important exercise."
